Technical hitch

OK Houston, Abergavenny, Bury-St-Edmunds, etc., we have a problem.

I can't access my blogging software from this part of China.

My cynical mind says that this is because I am in Xinjiang now, which is inhabited by people who don't think they are part of China. The Chinese government, which just wants to be loved, makes a special effort to prevent people in Xinjiang connecting with the outside world, believing that, deprived of the opportunity to love anybody else, the locals will love the Chinese government instead.

All of which explains (a) why I am feeling angry, and (b) why I can't give you the usual 2wheels photofest.

Laziness on my part accounts for the absence of the dull bits - mileage stats, etc.

So, instead, a quick summary: lots of desert, a few mountains, no pikas.

I am now in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang, which I could call East Turkestan, but that would probably have the local Boys in Blue (formerly the Boys in Green) (plainclothes branch) round quicker than you can say "Independence for Uyghurs Now!"

The much-trumpeted auto-email-blog-update-notifier thing seems to be on the blink too. Sorry. Will see what I can do. Probably nothing, since I can't access the HS2HTCACM (Highly Sensitive 2wheels High Tech Command And Control Module).

I met a cyclist the other day who knows Ruth/Yellow Gloves! Do you think someone could tell Asmund/Pink Gloves ?

Until the revolution,

Edward

  2. OK, I've got it sorted... Sort of. All I need to do is to log into Bl*gger and flick a switch.

Which of course I can't do. The government of Her Majesty's People's Republic of China has seen fit to block me again, for supporting/giving airtime to Pika Separatists.

Something that Rupert Murdoch would never do.

Not that it helped him much, except for getting him a nice little Chinese wife about 529 years his junior.

    Freedom,

    Edward

  3. "ASMUND ! ED SAYS HE'S MET SOMEONE WHO KNOWS RUTH YELLOW GLOVES!

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE GET UP OUT OF YOUR OF YOUR PIT AND GET INTOUCH WITH ED! "

this could be a olive branch?

otherwise you wont know will you!

    KIND REGARDS

Ed, hope that helped! I tried using the force but reception was very bad here due to a low front moving in.

perhaps you could get "lord of the pika's sorry his grace" to do your switching for you?

  5. was just reading that in Urumqi the Xinjiang Sheng Bowuguan museum has some 3000 yr old corpses of Europeans found in Xinjiang(one academic thinks they might be Celtic because of the weave and dye of the clothing)... so the Thousand Buddha Caves is there too nearby

  6. Erm. I was just wondering how your ticking along in yourself old bean? I saw the flat tyre and a rather nice picture of mr. Smiley fixing it. As you've been on the go for a good stretch now how goes it? Is all alright in the world of Ed? Sounds like a stupid question but it's an honest question are there any fantastic comments you have to share Oh! King of the road? for instance "I want cheese and onion crisps! or "Who thought this was a good idea!" perhaps "Beards are the wayforward!" That kinda thing.

My daugther is the one you have to thank for these questions as she was asking after you today as she thinks of you as her "tamagotchi virtual pet type of being"

I explained that your still miles and miles away. That travelling can take ages like weeks and months rather than a day or so. The concept of distance still is lost on her I think. She knows to see granny and grandad is a car journey, 2 planes flights, a bus ride, a short plane ride then a drive in grandad's car and then it's presents and sweets all holiday. So to her travelling is a very worthwhile thing, as you get cool stuff. So she said she hoped you enjoyed the present she made for you?

Then she asked me a simple yet very good question, "When it's raining here does it rain on Ed too?"

Bloody good point I thought! So we had a very complex, geography, science, metrology and time versus distance lesson. I think she lost me halfway through explaining as she had a very good answer totally wrong of course as it involved peter pan and captain hook. She seemed very happy with it and then went off to tell polar bear all about it.

So keep yourself in order have a rest I'm sure you need one by now. find out about the farting language very important! Also the 3000 year old stiffs very interesting! What about Marco Polo did he ever get himself near where your at?

All the best from darkest surrey

PS I the real Boris Johnson sent you an email by now, I also posted your web details on Critical Mass the cycling thing in London. I might go along it looks a right snigger.

  8. Edward,

If you don't pipe up soon with an update, I will be forced to mount my trusty steed and come search for you. And no self-respecting diamond-framer would live up to that. Being rescued by a recumbent fella.

I hope everything is safe and sound...

  9. Well either he's pedalling like a wrong'un searching the wastlands for an internet cafe. The puncture fairy been at him or the rumor of Pika Rabies could be more than just a rumor.

Just had a great idea for another pika picture.

PS how do you clip a picture onto this blog? is it those triangle shaped brackets jobbies?

  10. loiq, I have had a go at getting this blog to let me post a picture with my comment, but no can do. The usual format is:

    (img src="yourfilename"/)

Replace the brackets with < and >.

This was the pic that I was trying to get to appear in my comments (that picture is uploaded and linked to my server).

  11. loiq, if you desparately want to post your newest creation for Edward to see when he finally checks his new comments, then you can email me the pic, I can upload it to my server, I can send you the link, and then you're all set!

All in the name of ensuring that Edward is not devoured by some pesky rodent.

  13. Picture I've made is too dark and politically incorrect on lots of levels, so I'm not going to post it.
